"There are some books that refuse to be written. They stand their ground year after year and will not be persuaded. It isn't because the book is not there and worth being written -- it is only because the right form of the story does not present itself. There is only one right form for a story and if you fail to find that form the story will not tell itself."

—Mark Twain (1835-1910) [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] American author, humorist

Library Services

Everything we do for you, inside the library or out

Circulation Services

Books and other materials are checked in and out at the circulation desk.  Books, audiobooks, and CD's are loaned to patrons for two weeks.  VHS tapes and DVD's are loaned for one week.  Materials may be renewed (or checked out again) two times.  To renew an item, a patron may come into the library or call over the phone.  Our phone number is 345-5848.  Overdues for most materials are 10c per day, but VHS and DVD's are $1.00 per day.

The personnel at the circulation desk will also send faxes for $1.00 per page and make xerox copies for patrons.  We also receive faxes for individuals at (618) 345-0081.  Received faxes are also $1.00 per page.

Youth and Teen Services

Our collection includes a variety of materials appropriate for young people.  We have recently created a teen room, where children over 12 can read, have quiet study, quietly watch videos or listen to their i-pods without distracting others.

Reference Assistance.

We also provide reference service to our patrons.  We have a variety of reference materials within the library and access to online reference services also.

The Library's Collection

Our collection includes a variety of materials.  We supply large and regular print books, both fiction and nonfiction.  We have books on tape, and a variety of VHS and DVD's.  We have a collection of CD's in various types of music.  We have provided books for children and young people, as well as teachers, including "big" books for storytelling purposes.

Some things that maybe you didn't know

We collect used phone books all year long.

We also have a video eye that enlarges letters, photos and other items that may be hard to see or read.
